Leaving Oxford doesn't mean leaving the Condors!

Welcome to the Cowley Road Condors Cycling Club, Oxford's friendliest and most fun cycling club. Check out our website and come and join our facebook group too.

What the Condors are all about

Read all about us then join us on the road!

Rides & Chain Gangs

We run regular club rides every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, departing from Beeline Bikes, Cowley Rd. Week-night rides are usually divided into social, medium and fast paced groups.

The social rides are a great opportunity to build up the miles at a relaxed pace, whereas the fast rides and Thursday night chain gangs are a real challenge to even the strongest riders.

New Riders

We pride ourselves and being a friendly and welcoming club, especially to newcomers. There is something of a mystique about cycling clubs, but the Condors is just a group of people who enjoy riding bikes and we'd love you to come and join us.

New riders are welcome any time and we also run regular Newbie rides for those who'd prefer to take their first steps in club-riding in the company of other newcomers.

Women

We've been working hard to grow the women's side of the Condors and we're really pleased to say that women now make up over 40% of our membership.

Cycling has been a male-dominated sport for far too long, but that's something that our women's officers and women's committee are working hard to change.  We also have an excellent women's race team for those looking to compete.

Oh.. and did we mention that our new president for 2015-2016 is a woman too?!

Racing

The Condors have thriving men's and women's race teams who compete in many of the local competitions. Whether you're an experienced racer, or looking to take your first tentative steps into racing, our teams will be glad to see you.

We are a fully British Cycling affiliated club and were founding members of the Oxfordshire Road Race League (ORRL), so there's plenty of opportunities for gathering those precious BC points!

TT's

Time trials are a fantastic way to get into competitive cycling and a great way to challenge yourself and measure your own progress as a cyclist. The Condors is a fully CTT affiliated club and there are lots of keen time-trial riders in the club.

As well as hosting our own club TTs, we are also regulars at BMCC's TT events at Weston-on-the-Green and in the excellent Silverstone 9-up Time Trial Event.

Socials

The Cowley Road Condors is a really sociable club both on and off the bike and joining the Condors is a great way to meet new people in Oxford - all of whom love talking about cycling!

Our members have a great camaraderie formed from a shared outlook and time spent together putting in the miles on the road. We also host regular social evenings at local spots like Joe Perks, although we often have difficulty recognising each other at first without our helmets on!

Going Places: Adventures by Bike

An evening with the Cowley Road Condors and friends...
Dream of spending hours on your bike? Have a goal to ride to a greater distance? Think cycling feats are limited to elite athletes? Come and join us for an evening of talks by an inspiring group of ultra-distance cyclists.

Speakers

Emily Chappell
'Oh yes I can'

Ex London cycle courier, author, winner of the gruelling 4,000km PEdAL Ed Transcontinental race in 2016, and co-founder of The Adventure Syndicate, Emily is a longtime advocate of increasing the self-belief and confidence of others. Emily will be talking about those rare moments when we realise that we are capable of whatever it is we're currently putting our mind to, and how important it is to remember that every mile we ride, and every disaster we survive.

Jasmijn Muller
Dream big and dare to fail

For someone who only started cycling in her early 30s, Jas has an impressive endurance palmares to her name, including 2017 UK and World 24-Hr Time Trial Champion. Jas set her sights on breaking the solo world record for Lands End to John O’Groats (843 miles in less than 52 hours and 45 minutes), and after 3 attempts, decided that she would not try to break the record again. Jas will talk about her experience of trying and failing to reach her goal, and the important and unexpected lessons it taught her.

Tandem Women on Wheels (Raz Marsden and Cat Dixon)
Pedalling around the world

In the Summer of 2019 - starting from Beeline Bicycles on Oxford’s Cowley Road - two Condors will be attempting to break the world record for cycling around the world on a tandem. Both in their 50s, Raz and Cat intend to use their trip to show women that anything is possible: you are never too old to cycle, or to go on a big adventure. Come and listen to their plans, and ogle their handbuilt (bright pink!) bike.
